The 5th Generation of the family now runs the winemaking at Springfield, and it’s always been a sibling partnership – Arbie & Jeanette Bruwer are the winemaking team behind these spectacular wines. Miss Lucy is one of the seven nicknames given to the Red Stumpnose fish by the fisherman of the Southern Cape. Created as an ode to the bounty of the sea, and taking more than a decade to perfect, Miss Lucy is aimed firmly as the perfect glass to match with fish, as Springfield say themselves “turning dinner into a celebration of the ocean”. Only a salty breeze and a sunny day can improve what is already a perfect match. This is a unique blend of Sauvignon Blanc (46%), Semillon (35%) and Pinot Gris (19%); after the fermentation has finished the wine then spends another three months resting on the lees. The glass almost bursts with citrus grapefruit flavours, on the nose there is more tropical influence with ripe melon and grapefruit coming to the fore and an ample mouth feel, refreshing yet remarkably moreish!
