This winery is owned by Marko and Theo Zaninovich, they also happen to be one of California’s largest growers of table grapes! The art of growing of table grapes and wine grapes are different but they seem to excel at both, the grapes for this superb Chardonnay are taken from vineyards in Monterey; from the highly acclaimed appellation of Arroyo Seco. The vines are a specific clone of Chardonnay, Dijon Clones to be specific, they produce a lower yield but higher flavour concentration and impart distinctive mineral characteristics with rich flavours of citrus, stone fruits, white peach, melon and other tropical notes. The wine is also aged for eight months on the lees in French oak barrels. The result is a superb French influenced but distinctively new world style Chardonnay, with vibrant aromas of fresh pear, orange zest, mineral notes and vanilla courtesy of the oak and lees contact. On the nose these flavours follow through combining with subtle hints of lemon, white peach and butterscotch, leading to a long, lingering finish with a crisp and bright acidity to leave the tastebuds refreshed but craving more.
