SANT ANTONIO FONTANA SOAVE

An article stated most people under 35 won’t recognise the name Soave, such has been its fall from grace courtesy of the huge bulk wines produced in the late 70’s and early 80’s; it’s place in the public consciousness has been supplanted by Pinot Grigio and Prosecco, which means that with a wine such as this, you’ll get fantastic quality for a great price! Soave is from North Eastern Italy, Veneto the wine area that surrounds the old principality of Venice – specifically around the town of Verona. A blend of the classic Soave grape Garganega, but with the addition of 5% Trebbiano Soave and 5% Chardonnay. The grapes are all hand harvested to ensure the best selections are made, the juice is then cool fermented and kept in stainless steel throughout the production until bottling; this keeps the freshness and crispness of the style intact. On the nose there are fresh flowery hints of white grape and elder flowers, ripe pale white fruit such as apple and pear; as well as a smoky hint of citrus, perhaps courtesy of the Chardonnay in the blend. The palate is ripe and fleshy with more of the grape and white fruit from the nose appearing alongside a nutty but crisp finish.
