Zinfandel is something of an American icon, many think of it as THE American grape – let’s ignore the fact it started life in Italy as humble Primitivo then! Lodi is sandwiched between the Sierra foothills and the San Francisco bay delta in California’s Central Valley; for most people Napa further north is the area for quality, but the cool afternoons and evening breezes allow perfect growing conditions. Add to this the fact that Predator is sourced from 50 year old vines and the result is a superbly balanced wine with intense flavour and subtlety. Aromas of chocolate covered espresso bean, smoked bacon, and baked berries jump from the glass with a palate full of silky raspberry, cherry, mocha, and a spice driven dry but rich finish. This is a wine with considerable length and power, something of a winter warmer!
