Product Details
In the late 1980’s, four brothers - Armando, Paolo, Tiziano and Massimo Castagnedi - decided to produce their own wine on their family’s Sant’Antonio estate in the Valpolicella area. In 1989 they purchased 75 acres of land around Mezzane, which, when added to the estate’s existing property expanded the Tenuta Sant’Antonio vineyards to a total of 125 acres. They also built a new winery and in 1995 produced their first wine, we’ve had their superb Fontana Soave and Monti Garbi Ripasso at previous tastings. The name Valpolicella simply means valley of many cellars, and the name Nanfre comes from the nickname of Gianfranco, whose vineyards the brothers bought during their expansion. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified and aged in stainless steel to give a freshness of flavour, on the nose plum and dark berry fruits. The palate follows with ripe, spicy dark berry nose that mingles flavours of blackberries and black pepper.
