Product Details
The name of the Château refers to the location of a Roman Fort on this strategic point on the heights above the Dordogne river, wine has been made in this area since Roman times. The fruit comes from vineyards across the region, it is a “generic” Bordeaux Appellation wine, but the fruit does come from 25-year-old vines, with the blend split 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot & Malbec. half the wine is aged for 6 - 8 months in 100% new oak barrels, helping the wine to gain body and complexity whilst still retaining a fresh fruity aspect. The nose jumps from the glass with a bouquet of candied fruit, dark plum from the merlot, with a hint of blackberry from the cabernet and a splash of vanilla and caramel courtesy of the oak. The wine is full-bodied on the palate, with just the right amount of oak, and the dark berry and plums flavours also giving a hint of herb and spice. The palate leads into an elegant aftertaste with fruit covered with hints of vanilla, that combined with firm acidity makes this a great food wine.
