Product Details
Sauvignon is one of the classic white grapes from Bordeaux and produces some clean and intense dry styles as well as producing some of the best sweet wines in the world from Sauternes. Arguably the dry whites from Bordeaux are amongst the most overlooked wine styles currently produced, they were hugely popular up to the mid 60’s but changing wine styles and the upfront intensity of the New World styles has pushed this classic style into the background. Blason Timberlay is a classic Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc; along with the Tricon Chablis and the Riesling we’ll try shortly, this is another wine that emphasises it’s fresh and crisp appeal by using a low temperature fermentation in stainless steel vats. The finished wine is an intense, attractive, pale yellow color with hints of green. It has a distinguished and subtle floral bouquet, with an edge of crisp citrus fruit that is classic of Sauvignon. Well-balanced and full of character, this wine is crisp and fruity yet smooth on the finish with the acidity held in balance by a long aromatic aftertaste. After tasting this it is difficult to understand why the classic dry Bordeaux whites fell out of fashion.
