Rully sits within the Cote Chalonnaise, effectively in the middle of Burgundy, but the style of it’s wines are close to those from the Cote de Beaune as they are richer than those from further south. The Cote Chalonnaise marks the transition between the famous appellations and unique vineyards of the Cote d'Or, and the Maconnais to the south. As with the majority of white Burgundy, this is Chardonnay, most of which is vat matured, only a minority gets aged in oak barrels. This allows for a crisp style, but the use of some oak also gives a creamy richness that is absent from the leaner styles of Chablis to the north. Chablis is traditionally thought of as the classic accompaniment to the festive menu, but Rully offers a more complex and less austere style with its perfumed aromas of dried fruit and a light floral nose. This follows through onto the palate with a nutty, slightly savoury edge that is countered by the floral bouquet and complimented by a pleasing gentle richness and roundness to the finish.
