The label is evocative of the Belle Epoque, as La Belle Angèle was a famous character of the early 20th century; known for her beauty and joie de vivre, she was the muse of many French impressionist painters. Yet another label produced by Badet Clement, the parent company behind Les Jamelles but produced from their vineyards across the south of France. After selection and fermentation in stainless steel around 30% of the wine is aged for up to nine months in oak barrels. The aromas from the glass are full of crushed black fruits - blackberries, blackcurrants, and cherry jam and cooked fruits. The palate follows a similar profile with some smoky hints courtesy of the oak ageing as well as an herbaceous edge of thyme and spice.
